The processing of waste has been around for some time, but today family members are taking a more important approach to there recycling. With talks swarming around about green house emissions and global warming, families everywhere are trying to reduce the effects that they are each having on the environment. The best help has come from awareness; the greatest awareness has been from education. Education through media, and in our class rooms, with environmental sustainability being a hot subject matter taught in our classrooms.

The world is being educated, people everywhere are learning. I know this for a fact, even people as far away as Southern Africa, a country called Swaziland. Swaziland is one of the smallest African continents. Even here, I saw evidence of the education worldwide.

This company has had this ingenious idea of making goods through recycled products. They get people in the nearby villages to collect the recyclable material; in this case glass products, namely bottles, in turn the company sponsors the local schools, and employs people from the local villages, which creates employment. Not only is it helping with keeping our world clean and tidy, it is instilling awareness about the environment.

The company in question makes the most amazing hand blown sculptures through recycled glass products. The company itself organizes clean up days in the nearby regions. Where adults and school children alike, are encouraged, to collect the recyclable glass products. The awareness this creates is not only encourage able it’s a valuable lesson to all.

Once the glass is collected, it then goes through a process, firstly the glass is crushed, and then it is melted down, in these large gas-fired, furnaces. When they glass has been melted, the artisans then blow the glass into amazing shapes to make these very attractive products. They use a combination of hand, and mouth blown techniques to create the individual designs. The artists create many products, which all have a very African theme. This is amazing to observe.

Their designs include glass animal figurines and sculptures. These gorgeous African animals: elephants, hippos, giraffes and lots more, come in all sizes, from very small to quite large. The artists also make intriguing bottle stoppers, vases, and glasses. Each item is unique and has its own individual character; no two items are the same. If your ever in Swaziland you can take a tour of the company, and watch these amazing artisans create these spectacular glass sculptures.

Buying the perfect gift for someone can be a difficult task. Looking for something that speaks sentiments can be hard to find. These sculptures captivate you. They speak volumes, not only are they outstanding workmanship, but the whole message that comes with each individual sculpture, the awareness of communities supporting each other, the valuable lessons to regions as far away as Swaziland on environmental awareness. This is something that needs to be recognized and encouraged.

This great wide world would be much better off, if more businesses took a more environmentally friendly approach.
