Gender Action Learning – Action Tree for adultery

An extract from the 30 minute film Mapping the Road to Change sponsored by Oxfam Novib. Rural entrepreneurs from two grass-roots organisations in Western Uganda have been trained in the participatory GALS methodology. The documentary shows the impact on their lives and their communities’. The use of simple graphics and symbols enables members of Bukonzo Joint and Green Home to clearly visualise and understand their situation and collect useful information. The Gals methodology originated in work by Linda Mayoux with entrepreneurs and staff of Green Home, Bukonzo Joint and Kabarole Research and Resource Centre in Uganda, Port Sudan Small Entreprise Development in Sudan, ANANDI in India, Aga Khan Foundation Pakistan and Trickle-Up in USA.By July 2009 GALS was used by over 2000 women and men in Uganda and over 25000 in Latin America, Asia and elsewhere in Africa. Numbers are increasing all the time. Development and dissemination of the GALS methodology is currently supported by Oxfam Novib under its Womens Empowerment Mainstreaming And Networking (WEMAN) programme. Some of the entrepreneurs in Bukonzo Joint and Green Home are now being trained in participatory video as part of the WEMAN process.
