Construction workers in metro St. Louis are facing high levels of unemployment. One solution to this problem is energy efficient building, including retrofitting existing buildings and erecting new green buildings. Thanks to President Obamas stimulus program, more green construction jobs are available in home weatherization. Green building provides three distinct benefits: jobs for construction workers, lower utility bills for homeowners and businesses, and cleaner air for everybody. That is why this program is supported by organized labor, environmentalists and consumers alike. On this episode, local labor leaders explain what their locals are doing to prepare members for jobs in this growing sector. Guests include Mark Fuchs of the Carpenters Union apprenticeship program, Dennis Gralike of the IBEW Local 1 apprenticeship program, and Steve Nagle of the East-West Gateway Coordinating Council.
