www.bukaymedia.com Approximately 20 AFE members and guests attended this informative and memorable tour of the “Greenest College in the World!” This LEED Platinum facility has won numerous awards and offers a great chance to learn how to implement green building features into your facility. Many topics were discussed regarding the design, funding, materials of construction, LEED certification process, operation, and maintenance of this cutting-edge green facility. Leta Stagnaro, Ohlone College Associate VP led the tour and was accompanied by Don Eichelberger, Executive VP of Stegeman and Kastner in Pleasanton, California who was the Project Manager at Ohlone during construction. Attendees marveled at the beauty, comfort, and user-friendliness of the campus. Tour and discussions included the Green Touch Screens that show real-time energy usage, extensive photovoltaic systems that powers much of the campus, two ten-foot diameter enthalpy wheels used for air conditioning, the geothermal system, carbon footprint, and how the college is saving money by minimizing the use of paper. The principles used in the design of this Ohlone College campus provide numerous real-world examples and educational experiences of what is possible for a sustainable future. Special thanks to Leta Stagnaro and Don Eichelberger for providing us with this very informative and enjoyable tour!
