There are different types of renewable energy, also known as sustainable energy and green energy. They all have different methods but they all have two main things in common. The first is that they all use one or more renewable resource. The second thing is they all have the same purpose which is creating electricity without causing more damage to the earth.
The Different Types of Renewable Energy.
1. Solar – The process of using solar panels to absorb the suns radiation and convert it into electricity. Another solar power method is using large reflective surfaces to convert water into steam. The steam is used to power a generator, which provides electricity.
2. Wind – The process of using wind to power a wind turbine which converts kinetic energy into electricity.
3. Hydro Power – The process of forcing moving water through pipes or tubes to turn a turbine and power a generator which in turn provides electricity.
4. Geothermal – The process of trapping heat underground then using the rising heat to evaporate water into steam. The steam is then harnessed to power a generator and create electricity.
5. Biomass – Biomass factories burn biomass fuels such as wood and waste to boil water thus creating steam. The steam then turns a turbine to create electricity.
Renewable energy is a great source of power but it still has advantages and disadvantages. The main advantages are that the resources are renewable and they produce little or no pollution.
The main disadvantages are solar and wind energy don’t provide a constant flow of energy and hydro power can have undesirable affects on plants and wildlife.
