Living an environmentally friendly way can be difficult. We all need to get to work, heat our homes and feed our families and trying to be green or eco-friendly can often be a chore and costly.

However, one area where it is a lot easier to make a big difference on the environment and will actually save us money is in the garden. Gardening is one place where not only does it benefit us financially to be green but where we can see our eco-friendly efforts really come into fruition before our very eyes.

One of the most fundamental things we can do in the garden to remain eco-friendly, recycle our waste, save money and create a luscious and beautiful garden is to start composting. Composting is exceptionally east to do too. You can through literally any food or organic waste from the kitchen and garden and just let Mother Nature do her work. Wooden compost bins and other garden composters are often made from recycled wood and come as a compost bin kits.

Small ceramic kitchen composters are available too. These ‘ceramic compost crocks’ store kitchen waste without the smell saving you from having to jog to the large garden composter every few minutes.

Another must to keeping the garden looking healthy and lush is to keep the bugs away and this doesn’t have to harm the environment either. Raised bed kits are readily available to keep your flowers from out of the slug’s way. And what better an eco-friendly solution for keeping the flies down than using carnivorous plants like the Venus flytrap. Apart from their fantastic appearance, carnivorous plant kits are a simple way to get started with these exotic plants.

Another way that can save you money is to use your recycled waste to heat your home! What better way that to turn leaf litter and discarded paper into compact logs that can be burned in an open fire when the cold nights draw in? It’s not damaging to the environment either as log makers are available that pack the logs tight and so burn slower producing less more and more heat. They can be stored in a log store throughout the summer ensuring they are dry and ready to use when those chilly nights start drawing in.
